Tumulus (Case B 581): entry by order of 23 October 1963

Origin and history

The tumulus of Lanrivoare is a funerary monument dating from the Bronze Age, located in the municipality of Lanrivoare, Brittany. This archaeological site, typical of the megalithic constructions of this period, has been preserved until today and bears witness to the funeral rituals and social practices of the people of the period. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by decree of 23 October 1963 underlines its heritage importance and the desire to protect it for future generations.

At the Bronze Age, tumulus were generally used as collective or individual burials, often reserved for important members of the community. These structures, composed of earth and stones, marked the landscape and played a strong symbolic role in the territorial and spiritual organization of protohistoric societies. In Brittany, a region rich in prehistoric remains, these monuments illustrate an ancient human occupation and cultural traditions shared with other European regions.

The location of the Lanrivoare tumulus, although documented (7 Rue de Roc的H Avel), remains approximate according to available data, with an accuracy assessed as "a priori satisfactory". This monument, owned by the commune, is today a material testimony of the first forms of funeral architecture in Brittany, offering researchers and the public an overview of the beliefs and techniques of construction of this distant era.
