Tumulus de Kerlabour (Box ZE 26): entry by order of 25 May 1976
Origin and history
Kerlabour's tumulus, located in Sainte-Tréphine in the Côtes-d'Armor (Bretagne), is a funerary monument dating from the Bronze Age. This type of structure, typical of this period, generally served as a collective burial or territorial marker for local prehistoric communities. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by order of 25 May 1976 bears witness to its archaeological and heritage importance.
In the Bronze Age, the Breton population lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and handicrafts, with an increasingly hierarchical social organization. The tumulus, like Kerlabour's, played a central role in funeral practices and religious beliefs, reflecting the status of the deceased or clans. Their construction required collective mobilization, emphasizing their community and symbolic dimension in the prehistoric landscape.
