The tumulus (Case D 711): classification by decree of 24 March 1970
Origin and history
The tumulus known as Tossen-ar-C'honifled is a funerary monument located in the commune of Lanmeur, in Finistère (Bretagne region). Dated from the Bronze Age, it illustrates the architectural and ritual traditions of this period, marked by the construction of collective burials in earth and stones. This type of monument was generally used to house deceased persons, often accompanied by objects or offerings, reflecting the beliefs and social organization of protohistoric communities.
Filed under the Historical Monuments by decree of 24 March 1970, the tumulus (cadastral reference D 711) enjoys legal protection which aims to preserve its integrity. Available data, particularly from the Merimée database and Monumentum, indicate an approximate location, assessed as "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10). No additional information is provided on any excavations, archaeological discoveries or subsequent uses of the site.
The tumulus remains a silent but valuable testimony of Breton funeral practices more than three millennia ago.
