Origin and history

All the buildings of the former lime preparation plant, located in Teloché (Sarthe), is an emblematic industrial site of the first half of the 20th century. This monument, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 24 June 2019, preserves remarkable technical elements such as the metal cage of the oven loading mount, the automatic circumferential defurnaces, or the bucket chains and their ducts, located in the hall and the silos building. These installations illustrate lime production processes, an essential activity for the construction and agriculture sectors at that time.

The factory is located at 10 Chemin de la Roche, in an environment whose geographical accuracy is considered satisfactory (level 6/10). The site also includes an original electrical station, always present at the entrance. Although the practical information on current visits or uses (rents, guest rooms) is not specified, its registration as Historic Monuments highlights its heritage and technical importance. The protection covers all the buildings and equipment listed, delimited on a plan annexed to the registration order.

The industrial context of the Sarthe in the 20th century was marked by the exploitation of local resources, such as limestone, transformed into lime for various uses. Such plants played a key role in the regional economy, providing materials to neighbouring industries and farmers for soil modification. Their functional architecture, often sober, reflected the production imperatives of the time, while integrating technical innovations to optimize processes. These sites, now protected, offer a material testimony of the economic and technological changes of their time.
