Origin and history

The bridges of the Abattoir are an architectural complex composed of three bridges crossing the Aube, located in Montigny-sur-Aube, in Côte-d'Or (region Burgundy-Franche-Comté). They are located on the C.C. 2 departmental road, about 200 metres from the northeast exit of the village, towards Latrecey. Their construction dates back to the second half of the 18th century, a period marked by the development of road infrastructure in France.

The set consists of a main, low and multiple arch road bridge, followed by two small single arch bridges. Between the branches of the Dawn crossed by the latter, remains the remains of a building that could be the former slaughterhouse of the village. This hypothesis is reinforced by the very name of the bridges, although the sources do not explicitly confirm this function.

These bridges were classified as historic monuments by ministerial decree on 1 December 1962, thereby recognizing their heritage value. Their modest but functional architecture reflects the local needs of the time, linked to trade and travel between villages in the region. Today, they remain the property of the commune of Montigny-sur-Aube.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée base, highlight their precise location (8 Rue des Ponts) and their conservation status, although the accuracy of their geographical location is considered poor (level 5 out of 10). No information is provided on their current accessibility or tourist use.
