Origin and history
The old Poulangy bridge, built in stone with three curved arches, dates from the last quarter of the eighteenth century. It was completely rebuilt at that time, and then underwent major restorations between 1836 and 1840 under the direction of architect Charles-Sylvestre Topin. This work has retained character-defining elements such as the eight chasseurs-roues, the donkey back apron, and the quadrangular triangular and rear-beaks.
In 1850, a stone and iron cross was added to the bridge, designed by architect Delaveuve. This monument, which spans the Traire on the communal road linking Poulangy to Vesaignes-sur-Marne, was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 13 May 1996. It bears witness to the architecture of the rural bridges of the Haute-Marne, combining practical utility and decorative elements.
The bridge, owned by the commune of Poulangy, today retains its original characteristics, including its curved arches and its wheel protection systems. Its state of conservation and inscription make it a notable example of the road heritage of the Far East, reflecting the construction and restoration techniques of the 18th and 19th centuries.
