Origin and history

La Croix de Veyrines is a monument located in the hamlet of Veyrines, on the commune of Saint-Symphorien-de-Mahun, in Ardèche. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 21 September 1932, it is located near the church of the hamlet. This type of cross, often erected near places of worship or crossroads, generally served as a spiritual or commemorative landmark for rural communities.

In rural areas such as the Ardèche, such crosses were common and played an important role in the daily and religious life of the inhabitants. They often marked gathering places, parish boundaries or pilgrimage points. Their presence reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the social and territorial organization of villages, while serving as a visual landmark in sometimes isolated landscapes.
