Origin and history

The Alexandre Dumas villa, located in Arcachon, was built between 1895 and 1897 by the architect Jules de Miramont for Daniel Iffla-Osiris, a major figure in the development of the city of Winter. The latter, associated with the Pereire brothers, acquired the land in 1882 and entrusted the work to the contractor Pierre Blavy from July 1895. The villa, emblematic of the seaside style of the period, incorporates artistic elements such as the carved head of La Marseillaise by François Rude.

In 1897 Daniel Iffla-Osiris bequeathed the property to the Institut de France and then to the Institut Pasteur. The villa, classified as Historic Monument in 2022, includes the house, its garden, fences and gates. Its architecture reflects the opulence of the secondary residences of the bourgeoisie of the Belle Époque, while at the same time showing the role of Arcachon as a popular destination for winter cures.

The exact location, 2 aisle Alexandre Dumas, is confirmed by the archives of the Merimée base, although GPS coordinates suggest a nearby address. The villa, fully protected, illustrates the urban and cultural heritage associated with the creation of the city of Winter, initiated by visionary investors like Iffla-Osiris and the Pereire brothers.
