Origin and history
The villa Alsace, built in 1914, is located at 7 rue Jeanne-d'Albret in La Rochelle. Sponsored by Feydel shipowners (or Fedel according to sources), it is the work of municipal architect Pierre Grizet. This building, marked by an architecture rich in ornaments, is distinguished by a high slate roof and a round tower. Its decor, dominated by the sunflower motif, reflects an opulent and slightly eccentric style for the time.
The villa temporarily housed the Chilean Consulate, stressing its importance in the local landscape. In 1992, it was registered as a historical monument by order of 11 December, protecting its facades, roof and wrought iron vantals. This classification recognizes its heritage value, particularly for its representative architecture of the early twentieth century.
Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as an emblematic monument of La Rochelle. Its architectural style, combining tradition and originality, makes it a remarkable testimony to urban history and the cultural influences of the region at this time.
