Origin and history
The villa de la Bastière is a former noble house built in the 18th century in Vertou, Loire-Atlantique. It was originally owned by the Froust family, before passing by inheritance to Baron Claude Eugène Ferey de Rosengat, son of General Claude-François Ferey. The latter, Baron d'Empire, undertook modernization work after 1820, probably under the direction of architect François-Léonard Seheult.
The estate includes a terraced garden, moats, a charmille and a gazebo overlooking the vineyards. Although the chapel is excluded from protection, the whole (village, garden and landscape elements) is inscribed in historical monuments by order of 16 April 1997. The exact address, 9018 La Bastière, confirms its anchoring in the Vertavian landscape.
The villa illustrates the architectural evolution of noble residences between the 18th and 19th centuries, mixing aristocratic heritage and adaptations related to political changes (especially under the Empire). Its inscription as a historic monument underlines its heritage importance in the Pays de la Loire region, where it bears witness to the way of life of local elites at that time.
