Origin and history
The villa of the Douvelière is a castle located in Ancenis-Saint-Géréon, in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built in the early 19th century, this villa is distinguished by its neo-classical facade, characteristic of bourgeois architecture of the period. It was erected on the foundations of an old marina house, reflecting the urban and social evolution of the city, linked to its river activity on the Loire.
The villa could be attributed to one of the two renowned architects of the region: Étienne Blon or Louis Chaigneau, although this paternity is not confirmed with certainty. The monument was officially recognized for its heritage value in 1997, when its main façade was listed as historic monuments. This protection specifically concerns the façade, classified under the reference cadastral S 593.
Located at 158 quai de la Marine, the villa is part of an urban landscape marked by the maritime and commercial history of Ancenis. Its location, close to port infrastructure, highlights the link between residential architecture and local economic activities. Today, the villa remains a testimony of the neo-classical heritage and the adaptation of old buildings to new residential or cultural functions.
