Designer of Villa Helianthe.
Origin and history
Villa Hélianthe, built in the 1950s in Royan, is the work of architect Yves Salier (Salier Lajus Courtois agency Sadirac). Located at 38 boulevard de La Grandière, it is distinguished by its arc of circle plan, combining curves, withdrawals and advances for a dynamic effect. Its reinforced concrete superstructures and its brick staircase tower, pierced with circular bays, illustrate the architectural innovation of the time.
The villa was listed as historic monuments on 28 May 2002 for its facades and roofs. Its tarred roof terrace and the concrete strips surrounding each level reflect the constructive techniques of the mid-20th century. An extension, added between 1970 and 1975, slightly alters the initial equilibrium of the facade.
This building is part of the reconstruction of Royan after World War II, a period marked by a bold architectural renewal. Villa Helianthe embodies this desire for modernity, combining functionality and avant-garde aesthetics, typical of the 1950s in New Aquitaine.
