Origin and history
The villa La Closerie, located at 14 avenue des Oyats au Touquet-Paris-Plage in the department of Pas-de-Calais, is an emblematic construction of the first half of the twentieth century. It was built around 1925 by the Entreprise Pentier Frères, according to the plans of the architect Arsène Bical, whose cabinet was established on the streets of Metz and Saint John before 1918. The villa is distinguished by its Y plan and its style combining neo-English influences and Art Deco, reflecting the taste of the era for a revisited aesthetic.
The facades, roofs, as well as the interior decoration of the ground floor and the bathroom on the first floor of the villa have been listed as historical monuments since 1 December 1997. This interior decor, which remains intact, reflects a historical interpretation of the 1920s. The villa belonged to Viscount Eugène Tiberghien, the camerier of the pope, adding an aristocratic and religious dimension to his history.
Built of brick, woodpan, and partially coated, the Villa La Closerie is characterized by a square floor and a gable-finished floor. Its architecture, typical of the style of Arsène Bical, is part of the seaside landscape of the Touquet-Paris-Plage, where the prestigious residences reflected the luxury and architectural innovation of the inter-war period. The villa is today a testimony of this fascist time, where the art of living by the sea attracted an elite in search of modernity and elegance.
