Origin and history

The villa Le Mesnil, located at 12 rue Hubert-Colombier in Vichy (Allier, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is part of a real estate complex designed between 1897 and 1900 by Hubert Colombier, local banker and stickman. This project included a main villa, villa Jurietti, as well as several rental villas of various styles, including villa n°12, completed in 1900. The building is distinguished by its classic model and its barlong dome overlooking the left span, reflecting the eclectic architecture of the Vichyssian thermal era.

Hubert Colombier, owner of the premises, had a private road built sanded and closed, typical of the bourgeois residential districts of the late 19th century. Villa Le Mesnil, with its facades and roofs protected since 1988, illustrates Vichy's rise as a spa and popular resort. Its architect, Percilly, helped shape this heritage linked to the thermal age of the city, marked by a mixture of classicism and architectural innovations.

Partially classified as historical monuments in 1988, the villa bears witness to the urban and social heritage of Vichy, where the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie invested in secondary residences. Its inscription underscores the heritage value of this complex, a symbol of a time when the city attracted an affluent clientele who came to enjoy thermal cures and a luxurious living environment.
