Origin and history
The Villa Le Pas de Pique, located at 1285 chemin de la Voie Romaine au Tignet (Alpes-Maritimes), was designed by the architect Marcel Lods between 1961 and 1962. The first plans date back to 1958, and its construction was carried out with the help of Saint-Gobain. The building, built for Lods' personal use, embodies its principles of light industrialization, previously applied in the large social housing complexes of the Thirty Glorieuses.
The villa rests on a frame of four welded steel portals, supporting a floor, ceiling and roof on a single level of 110 m2. Its walls overlay sliding layers (glasses, orientable blinds, solid panels), illustrating a modular and innovative approach. It was listed as a historical monument on 11 September 2006 and labeled "Twentieth Century Heritage" on 28 November 2000.
This building, owned by a private company, is considered a major reference in industrial metal architecture. It symbolizes the adaptation of light prefabrication techniques, initially developed for social housing, to a private residence. The villa remains an architectural testimony of 20th century experiments, combining functionality and industrial aesthetics.
