Origin and history

Villa Muchir, located 50 avenue de la Côte-Vermeille in Canet-en-Roussillon, is an emblematic example of 20th century modernist architecture. Built on a plot of 220 m2, it is distinguished by its original plan, its minimalist distribution and its two floors on transparent ground floor, supported by stilts. Its architect, Férid Muchir, designed this building as a secondary residence, optimizing space and light for summer use.

Férid Muchir acquired the land by sea in June 1956 and built two adjoining villas. Although plans for the Muchir villa have disappeared, those for the nearby villa date back to 1955-1956. The villa is classified as a historic monument on 20 March 2015, including the entire building, the ground of the plot and the fence walls, delimited by a plan annexed to the decree. His heritage interest lies in his modernist expression and innovative spatial composition.

The villa illustrates a period when the seaside architecture is renewed, mixing functionality and bold aesthetics. Its ranking reflects the recognition of its exceptional character, both in its design and its integration into a coastal environment. The transparency of the ground floor and the narrow facade make it a model of creative adaptation to urban and natural constraints.
