Origin and history
Villa Palauda, built in Thuir in the Eastern Pyrenees in the 19th century, is a remarkable example of bourgeois architecture of this period. It was built as a private residence, reflecting the style and comfort sought by the wealthy families of the time. Its classification as historic monuments in October 2009 highlights its heritage and architectural value.
The villa was owned by the Violet family, a prominent local family. During World War II, it was requisitioned by German forces during the occupation, a dark episode that marked its history. Today, it remains a testimony of this troubled period while maintaining its original elegance.
The facades and roofs of the villa, as well as its winter garden, have been protected since 2009. These architectural elements, characteristic of the 19th century, are representative of the stylistic influences of the era, often combining classicism and technical innovations. The villa is now owned by the municipality of Thuir, which ensures its preservation for future generations.
