Origin and history

Villa Perrotte is an Art Deco-style mansion located at 9 rue Jules-Ferry in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime. Directed in 1928 by architects Georges Feray, winner of the Prix de Rome in 1923, and Louis Filliol, it was sponsored by Pierre Perrotte, local industrialist (Oil Poullard) and mayor of Dieppe from 1929 to 1935. Its exterior architecture is distinguished by geometric and asymmetrical volumes, typical of the modernist movement between the two wars, while the interior combines recessed furniture, marble fireplaces and a monumental stained glass window with red, black and silver tones.

The villa, fully registered (building, interior and garden) to historical monuments since July 30, 2012, reflects a close collaboration between architecture and landscape. The mineral courtyard and the enclosed garden, rigorously structured, complete this set designed as a total art work. After sheltering a medical practice and then a gallery of art between 2008 and 2018, it was acquired by private owners in 2022, marking a new stage in its history.

Georges Feray and Louis Filliol, its designers, have integrated innovative elements for the period, such as wrought iron parts and a monumental staircase, while respecting the functional principles of Art Deco. The villa thus illustrates the creative audacity of the 1920s, when Dieppe, a growing seaside resort, attracted an industrial bourgeoisie concerned with modernity. Its late ranking (2012) highlights the gradual recognition of this 20th century heritage, long underestimated.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its importance in the Norman architectural landscape. Recent press articles (2018, 2023) bear witness to the challenges of its preservation, between historical memory and contemporary adaptation. The villa remains a symbol of Dieppe's cultural dynamism, between industrial heritage and artistic vocation.
