Origin and history

Villa Pyrène, located in Bagnères-de-Luchon, is a former hotel built around 1865 as Hotel des Princes. This emblematic monument of 19th-century thermal architecture is distinguished by its elevation on the walkway of the Baths, linking the thermal baths to the casino park. Its facade, decorated with shooting balconies and an advanced central span, reflects the luxury of the era. Two wrought cast iron verandas, added around 1900, embellish the courtyard, while an interior decor combining paintings, ceramics and sculptures bears witness to its prestige.

Originally, the Princes Hotel was cited in 1860 as an establishment offering table d'hôte, restaurant, and English board in season. Held by the Estrade brothers in the 1880s, the villa welcomed personalities such as Fernand Samuel, director of Varieties, or academician Alfred Capus. Redeveloped around 1900, it has a BD monogram associated with Dr.Dutech, a likely sponsor. Its painted decoration, attributed to André-Pierre Lupiac, and its polychrome marbles make it a jewel of the thermal heritage.

Ranked a Historic Monument in 2004 for its facades, roofs, verandas and fence, the villa symbolizes the golden age of the Pyrenean resorts. Its central aisle covered with a glass roof, its galleries in red and black marbles, and its ironwork terraces illustrate the seaside lifestyle of the Belle Époque. Today transformed into a housing building, it remains a major testimony of Luchon's tourist history.

Sources indicate an approximate location (13 aisle des Bains), with a cartographic accuracy considered fair (note 5/10). Protected elements include the metal structures of the verandas and the fence on the driveway, highlighting their heritage value. The villa thus embodies the combination of architectural elegance and functionality that characterized the great 19th century thermal hotels.
