Origin and history

The villa Saint-Michel-Archange is located at 18 rue Hubert-Colombiar in Vichy, in the department of the Allier (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). It is part of a set of villas built between 1897 and 1900 by Hubert Colombier, a stickman at the Court of Cusset and owner of the bank of Vichy. The latter created a private gate, including a main villa (the villa Jurietti) and several rental villas of distinct styles. The villa n°18, adjacent to a half-timbered concierge, is distinguished by an unusual model, leaving a doubt about its direct belonging to Colombier.

The architectural set, designed as an elegant and secure residential space, reflects the thermal and real estate rise from Vichy to the Belle Époque. The villa Saint-Michel-Archange, although not signed, is part of this ambitious urban project. Its facades and roofs were partially protected by a decree of 2 May 1988, recognizing its heritage interest.

The architect Percilly is mentioned as the masterpiece of the ensemble, although his precise role for villa n°18 is not explicitly detailed in the sources. Today, the villa remains a testimony of the eclectic architecture and social dynamics of Vichy at the turn of the 20th century, linked to the influx of an easy clientele attracted by the thermal baths.
