Origin and history

The villa Wallonne is a large corner villa, built at the beginning of the 20th century in Touquet-Paris-Plage, in the department of Pas-de-Calais. It is distinguished by its eclectic style, mixing neo-medieval, neo-gothic and neo-Normanian references, and rests on a stone base of Baincthun. Located at 44 boulevard Daloz, at the corner of rue de Bruxelles, it marks the entrance to the city centre, symmetrically at rue Saint-Jean. Its facades and roofs have been listed as historical monuments since 12 August 1998.

The villa, of chalet type, refers to the neighbouring Swiss Village and consists of three levels: a ground floor in grey stone bellows housing a garage and services, a first floor with a loggia and a terrace, and a top floor treated in wood. Its eclectic decor includes balconies, a bowl-window, and a cartridge bearing his name, La Wallonne. The cut-pane angle, of neo-medieval style, and the overflowing half croupes recall Norman architecture.

Designed by the Amienese architect Aimé Delarue, the villa was built by Pentier Frères. It illustrates the importance of bourgeois residences in the growing seaside resorts at the beginning of the 20th century, where architecture reflected both the social status of the owners and the various stylistic influences of the time. Its strategic location and style make it a landmark of local heritage.

The protected elements include facades and roofs, listed by ministerial decree in 1998. The villa symbolizes the elegant urbanization of Touquet-Paris-Plage, a seaside resort popular since the beginning of the 20th century for its refined setting and bold constructions, mixing tradition and modernity.
