Origin and history

The Domitian Way to Pomerols is a monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the Occitan region. This road vestige bears the name of an ancient major Roman way, the Via Domitia, which linked Italy to Spain through the Nabronnaise Gaul. However, the available sources do not specify the exact period of construction or use of this specific section in Pomerols, nor does it specify its precise role in the old local network.

The Roman ways, like the Domitian, played a central role in the organization of the territories conquered by Rome. They facilitated trade, military travel and cultural dissemination. In today's southern France, these infrastructures have often served as a basis for medieval and then modern roads.

In Pomérols, as in other Occitan municipalities, these archaeological traces bear witness to the ancient occupation and integration of the region into the communication networks of ancient times.
