Origin and history

The former town hall of Collonges-la-Rouge is a house on the ground floor and first floor, built in red sandstone, characteristic material of the village. Its openings feature a variety of styles: a basket handle hanger on the ground floor and a low floor. The roof, on a steep slope, is pierced by a pulley-tower, a typical element of the local architecture of the 16th–15th centuries.

Inside, a stone chimney with carved motifs bears the date of 1626, attesting work or renovation at that time. The building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 4 January 1951, is protected for its facades, roof and fireplace. Its past use as a town hall reflects its central role in the communal life of Collonges-la-Rouge.

Located in the heart of the village (approximate address: 5127 Le Bourg), this house illustrates the traditional civil architecture of Limousin, now integrated into the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its state of conservation and location, noted as "passable" (5/10) in the heritage bases, make it a modest but representative testimony of the French rural heritage.
