Origin and history

Hotel Loysel Le Gaucher is a private hotel built in 1777 in Montreuil-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais. It illustrates the architectural and social evolution of the eighteenth century, marked by the installation of notables in the city. Its sober architecture, typical of the period, is distinguished by a U-house body, a gate framed by pavilions, and facades decorated with various carved heads.

Inside, the hotel retains floor panels and fireplaces, as well as a room decorated upstairs. Partially listed as historical monuments in 2012, it protects its facades, roofs, courtyard, and some interior decorations (vestibulum, living rooms, staircase). Since 2020, it has housed a charming hotel, rehabilitating this historic heritage.

The construction of this hotel is part of a broader movement of urban transformation in the 18th century, where local elites invest the city centre. Its location between courtyard and street reflects the architectural codes of the time, mixing functionality and prestige. The carved elements and interior decorations bear witness to a quality craft, characteristic of bourgeois residences in the region.

The partial inscription to the historical monuments in 2012 covers the exterior elements (portal, pavilions, walls) and remarkable interior rooms, such as the living rooms on the ground floor and the bedroom on the floor. This protection highlights a local heritage representative of private hotels in Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Today, Hotel Loysel Le Gaucher combines historical preservation and contemporary use, offering a tourist experience rooted in the history of Montreuil-sur-Mer. Its renovation to a charming hotel in 2020 made it possible to enhance this monument while making it accessible to the public.
