Origin and history

The Saint-Quentin well is a historic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. Built in the first quarter of the eighteenth century, it embodies the utilitarian architecture of this period, marked by increasing attention to public hygiene and water supply in cities.

This well was listed as historic monuments by order of 11 May 1932, thereby recognizing its heritage value. It is precisely Gaspard-de-Coligny Square, a central location in the city, reflecting its importance in the daily life of the inhabitants of Saint-Quentin. Today, there is still material evidence of modern urban infrastructure.

The location of the well, mentioned in the Merimée base and confirmed by GPS coordinates, is considered satisfactory (level 7 out of 10). It belongs to the municipality and, although its current status (opened or closed to the visit) is not specified, it is an important part of the local heritage, linked to the urban and social history of Saint Quentin.
