Origin and history

Wood Cottage, located at Vesinet in the Yvelines, is a rustic house built in 1864 by architect Tricotel. This building is distinguished by its walls made of debarked oak wood, sturdled with mill, flint and stone debris. Each facade is decorated with a polygonal tower, and the cover, originally planned in thatch, has evolved over time. Inside, the original wooden elements (doors, chimneys) are always present, testifying to its authenticity.

The house was built for Mr.Taconnet, and his dovecote and adjacent housing were originally covered with stubble. Wood Cottage is one of the first constructions of Vesinet, an emblematic place of 19th-century picturesque architecture. Classified Historic Monument by Order of 26 September 2000, the property includes all built and unbuilt parts of Parcel AH 352.

The architect Tricotel designed this building as an example of a rustic house, mixing natural materials and traditional techniques. The precise location, 122 boulevard des Etats-Unis or 2 Rue Traversière, reflects its integration into the landscape of Vesinet, a commune marked by a varied architectural heritage. The house is now protected for its historical character and originality.
