Origin and history

The log house of Lent is a 16th century civil monument, located in the municipality of Lent, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This type of construction, characteristic of medieval and reborn architecture, uses an apparent wooden structure, filled with torchi or bricks. The house thus illustrates the local construction techniques of the time, adapted to the resources available in the region.

The house has been partially protected for historical monuments. A decree of 17 September 1937 inscribed its facades and roofs, recognizing their heritage value. This inscription demonstrates the importance attached to the preservation of ancient civilian buildings, often less protected than religious or military monuments. The house is located on the Grande Rue de Lent, near the road leading to Meximieux, according to data from the Merimée database.

At the time of its construction in the 16th century, the Bresse region, of which Slow is part, was marked by a rural and artisanal economy. Wood-paned houses served both as a dwelling and sometimes as a place of activity for local artisans or traders. Their wooden structure allowed rapid and economical construction, while offering good insulation. These buildings thus reflect the way of life and know-how of the people from Ain to the Renaissance.
