Origin and history
The log house of Saint-Gondon is an emblematic 15th century building, located in the Loiret department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. It is located at the corner of the Place de la Liberté and the Rue des Jews, in the commune of Saint-Gondon. This building, rectangular and three-storey, is a typical example of medieval architecture in wooden strips, with carved poles and a moulded sandstone.
The monument has been listed as a Historic Monument since May 11, 1994. It was once located on the former Place des Halles, a strategic location on the road from Orleans to Sancerre. Originally, he was joined to another wooden house dating back to 1636, now extinct. The interior preserves elements of the period, such as the wooden panels, tommets and a frame that was rolled up, although the old chimneys have disappeared or are in ruins.
The structure, without foundations, is served by an integrated square staircase cage. A veranda and a posterior wing were later added. The north facade suggests the existence of an old gallery serving the floors. Owned by the commune, this monument illustrates the medieval architectural heritage of the region and its role in the local life of the time.
