Origin and history
The sawmill and mill of Raffort are a monument in the municipality of Allues, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This site, although documented in internal sources, does not have detailed information on its construction period or historical evolution. Its existence, however, reflects the importance of artisanal and agricultural activities in this mountainous area, where mills and sawmills played a central role in the local economy.
In alpine valleys such as Les Allues, mills and sawmills were essential infrastructures in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They were used to transform local natural resources (wood, cereals) into products for use by rural communities. These facilities reflect a social organization where crafts and subsistence farming structured daily life while adapting to the geographical and climatic constraints of the Alps.
