Origin and history

The Musée des Transmissions – Espace Ferrie is a museum located in Cesson-Sévigné in Ille-et-Vilaine, on the Rennes Atalante technopole. It brings together military and civilian objects related to telecommunications, information technology, electronic warfare and encryption. Its objective is to show the contribution of information and communication systems to defence, through a synthesis of their evolution, both civilian and military.

The project is the result of cooperation between the Brittany region, the Ille-et-Vilaine department, Rennes Métropole, the municipality of Cesson-Sévigné and the Ministry of Defence. A scientific council, composed of historians and engineers, designed the exhibitions to present this technical history in an accessible way. The museum is organized on four levels, with a permanent exhibition on the 3rd and 2nd floors, and spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions, pedagogy, memorial and a showroom on the 1st floor.

The museum regularly evolves through the renewal of temporary exhibitions and the addition of new acquisitions or models made on site. Among the remarkable pieces are replicas of Ariane rockets (Arian 1, Ariane 4 and Ariane 5 on the 1/10th scale) and a replica of the military satellite Hélios, illustrating technological advances in space observation. A 1/10 scale Ariane 4 rocket also welcomes visitors to the entrance.

Ferrie space is distinguished by its historical and technical approach, highlighting contemporary issues such as cybersecurity or satellite communications. The museum is intended for specialists as well as the general public, with a strong educational vocation, including through its educational service and interactive exhibitions.
