Donjon (rests): registration by order of 16 January 1939
Origin and history
Le donjon du Crozet is an architectural vestige located in the commune of Le Crozet, in the Loire department (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). Dating from the 15th century, it is a typical example of the defensive constructions of this period, although its present remains only permit a partial understanding of its original structure. The monument was included in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 16 January 1939, thus underlining its heritage importance.
The location of the dungeon, at approximately 178 Impasse de la Poterne, is estimated with an accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10). This type of construction, common in the Middle Ages, was generally used to protect local populations and control territories. In the region, the dungeons were often integrated into broader defence systems, reflecting the political and military tensions of the time.
Today, the Crozet dungeon belongs to the commune and its state of conservation raises questions about its accessibility to the public. Available sources, such as the Merimée and Monumentum base, mention its registration but do not specify whether it is open to the visit, used for events, or transformed into reception space as guest rooms. The Creative Commons license associated with certain photographs of the site allows limited distribution of its image.
