Origin and history

The Priory Saint-Jean-de-l'Habit, located in Feugarolles (Lot-et-Garonne), was founded in the early 12th century as part of the order of Fontevrault. This masculine priory housed the chaplains, confessors and conscience directors of the nuns of the priory next to the Paravis, from which he was separated only by a few meters. The religious of Saint John of Habit were placed under the authority of the Prioress of the Paravis, in accordance with the statutes of the Order.

Over the centuries, the priory underwent several changes, notably in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. After being sold as a national good during the French Revolution, it was transformed into a farm and underwent new changes in the 19th and 20th centuries. Despite these transformations, certain elements of the priory, as well as its soil and basement, were protected by an inscription in the Historical Monuments in 1994.

Today, the site retains traces of its religious and agricultural past. Its approximate address, 265 Prat Barrat in Feugarolles, allows to locate it in a rural setting marked by its medieval history and subsequent adaptations. The accuracy of its location is estimated to be "a priori satisfactory" based on available data.
