Origin and history

The mansion of Vaux, located in the commune of Vaux in Haute-Garonne (Occitanie region), is a 17th-century building. It is distinguished by its architectural elements typical of this period, including two classic gargoyles adorning the upper part of its facade. The posterior façade, built in local rough rubble, and the bay crucifixes, rebuilt in the seventeenth century, bear witness to the construction techniques and materials used at the time. Inside, the mansion retains a few French wooden ceilings, as well as a small doric porch in the vestibule, probably an old entrance.

The Mansion of Vaux was listed as a Historic Monument by order of 26 May 1944, thus recognizing its heritage value. Architectural details, such as gargoyles and wooden ceilings, reflect the influence of 17th century classic styles. Although the information on its precise historical use is limited, this type of mansion was often associated with a seigneurial or bourgeois residence, playing a central role in the local social and economic organization.

The location of the mansion, in the village of Vaux, makes it an important part of the built heritage of Haute-Garonne. Its inscription in the title of Historical Monuments in 1944 underlines its importance for the preservation of regional architectural heritage. The interior and exterior features, such as the doric porch and the rough bellows, offer an overview of the constructive and aesthetic practices of the modern era in Occitanie.
