Origin and history

The cross of Bibost is a historical monument located in the municipality of Bibost, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Dating from the 15th century, it is located in the hamlet of Planin and presents itself as a stone cross, typical of the religious buildings of this period. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 19 January 1926 underlines its heritage importance and its historical value to the region.

In the 15th century, the road or hamlet crosses played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They often marked gathering places, crossroads or territorial boundaries, while serving as spiritual landmarks for the inhabitants. In the context of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, these monuments also reflected the influence of the Church and popular piety, integrated into the daily landscape of the villages.

Their preservation today offers a material testimony of the religious and social practices of the medieval era.
