Facades and roofs (Case EY 4): inscription by order of 23 December 1976
Origin and history
Villa Medicis, also called Carré Medicis, is a monument located in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, in Val-de-Marne. Built in the second half of the 19th century, it embodies the bourgeois residential architecture of this period, marked by aesthetic research and a concern for comfort. Its facades and roofs, protected by a decree of 23 December 1976, bear witness to this characteristic style.
The building is now owned by a private company, but it remains associated with the local cultural heritage thanks to its link with the Musée de Saint-Maur. The location of the villa, at 92 rue du Bac and 5 rue Saint-Hilaire, reflects its integration into the urban fabric of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, a commune that was then expanding under the influence of the Parisian proximity.
The partial protection of the villa (façades and roofs) underlines its heritage importance, although its GPS location is considered "a priori satisfactory" (note of 7/10). This ranking is part of a desire to preserve the traces of 19th-century urban planning and architecture in Île-de-France, a period of major transformations for the region.
