Lec'h surmounted by a cross called Ar-Groez-Veur (Box C 1) : classification by decree of 16 January 1924
Origin and history
Ar-Groez-Veur de Plomeur is an emblematic monument of the protohistoric period, located in the town of Plomeur in Finistère. This site is distinguished by its lect'h, an erect stone typical of the Breton region, surmounted by a cross called d'Ar-Groez-Veur. This type of monument, both megalithic and Christianized, illustrates the superposition of times and beliefs on the same sacred place. The site was officially recognized for its heritage value by a classification as Historic Monuments in 1924.
The location of Ar-Groez-Veur, although documented in the Merimée database under the address of Plomeur (Insee code 29171), remains approximate according to available sources. GPS coordinates suggest a location close to Beuzeg, but the accuracy of this location is assessed as poor (level 5/10). This monument, along with other Breton lecks, bears witness to the funeral or commemorative practices of protohistoric populations, before being reinvested by Christianity with the addition of a cross.
The protected element of the site, i.e. the lec'h surmounted by a cross, is mentioned under the cadastral reference C 1. No additional information is available on its current use, such as a possible public opening, room rental or tourist services. Sources are limited to Monumentum data and internal archives, without details of archaeological excavations or specific on-site studies.
