Origin and history
The Tour de l'Horloge de Verdun-sur-Garonne is an old town gate erected in the 19th century. It consists of a square brick tower, with a posterior facade in wooden panels. On its main face, a baroque pediment houses a clock and a bell, while a lower door allows the passage of a street. A sundial and inscription complete this architectural ensemble.
Classified as a Historic Monument since 1950, this tower illustrates 19th century urban architecture, mixing traditional materials like brick and wood. Its clock, a central element, bears witness to its practical role in the daily life of the city, marking time for residents and travellers crossing Verdun-sur-Garonne.
The structure, owned by the municipality, is located on the main square, at the approximate address of 17 Rue Gabriel Péri. Its state of conservation and its precise location (noted 8/10 for its reliability) make it a notable historical landmark in the Tarn-et-Garonne, in the Occitan region. No information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary uses (visits, rentals).
