Origin and history
The former Violet Pavilion, located 6 places Violet in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, is a neo-Palladian building built during the 1st quarter of the 19th century. It was built by the entrepreneur and promoter of the Beaugrenelle district, an area that was undergoing urban transformation. Its architecture reflects the classical influences of the period, with particular attention to the proportions and ornamental details.
In 1860, after annexation of the municipalities bordering the city of Paris, the pavilion was assigned to firefighters. This reallocation is part of the administrative and functional reorganizations related to the expansion of the capital. The building, whose facades and roofs have been protected since a decree of 15 September 1993, is now owned by the municipality.
The architect Jean Léonard Violet is associated with the design of this monument, although his exact role (workmaster or designer) is not detailed in the available sources. The pavilion, originally likely intended for residential or representative use, now embodies both historical and functional heritage, which is still active in the service of public safety.
The location of the site, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), and its official address (6 Place Violet) make it a visible landmark in the landscape of the 15th arrondissement. The protected elements, cadastralized under references 15 : 04 EK 59, 60, underline its heritage importance in the Parisian urban fabric.
