Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Crèche-et-Saint-Gorgon de Craches, located in Prunay-en-Yvelines, is a monument dating back to the 12th and 15th centuries. The nave, built in the 13th century, is the oldest heart of the building. At the end of the 15th century, a northern collateral was added, while the entrance door was redone. The bell tower originally planned to the northwest was never realized, although waiting stones testify to this unfinished project.

Between 1901 and 1903, architect Trubert undertook the reconstruction of the bell tower, this time on the façade, replacing the old bell tower that was between the first two spans. The church, classified as Historic Monument by decree of 1 February 1978 (excluding the modern bell tower), is now owned by the municipality. It now houses a museum, marking a transition between its original religious use and a cultural vocation.

The second patron saint of the church, Saint Gorgon, is mentioned in the archives, although his precise role in the history of the monument is not detailed. GPS coordinates and address (1 Rue de l'Eglise, 78660 Prunay-en-Yvelines) confirm its location in the Yvelines department, in the Île-de-France region. The accuracy of this location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), based on available data.
