Origin and history

The tower of Bourdeix is the only remaining standing vestige of the ancient castle of Colomges, built between the 12th and 13th centuries. This large circular tower, constructed of regularly equipped granite, reaches another 15 meters high. Its walls, of a thickness close to three meters, testify to its defensive function. The lower part is vaulted in dome, a notable architectural characteristic for the period.

Classified Historic Monument by decree of 29 February 1988, the tower today belongs to the commune of Bourdeix, in the Dordogne department. Although its present state does not allow to restore the entire original castle, it offers a remarkable example of medieval military architecture in Périgord. Its location, in the heart of the village of Le Bourdeix, suggests its central role in the local feudal organization.

Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, indicate that the tower is located at approximately 3 Le Bourg, 24300 Le Bourdeix. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rental, or accommodation), or on any historical characters related to its construction or use. The accuracy of its geographical location is assessed as satisfactory a priori (level 6/10).
