Origin and history
The building located 14 square of the Parliament in Bordeaux is part of a homogeneous architectural complex of the eighteenth century, characteristic of the Bordeaux town planning of the time. The square, formerly called Place du Marché Royal, forms an irregular quadrilateral where the buildings share a common ordinance: a commercial ground floor, two noble floors, and a third treatise in attic. The set, made of cut stone, is crowned by a balustrade cornice and an attic, while carved masks and shells adorn the keys of yousures. All windows feature wrought iron balconies, typical elements of the Louis XV style.
The building was built in 1754, according to historical sources. It is part of a broader urban project to enhance Bordeaux, reflecting the economic prosperity of the city linked to maritime and colonial trade. The façade and roof were protected by a registration order for the Historic Monuments on 17 April 1952, recognizing their heritage value. The exact address, 14 place du Parlement (33000 Bordeaux), corresponds to cadastre F 634.
The building illustrates the influence of Parisian models on Bordeaux architecture, with a search for elegance and symmetry. The decorative details, such as the sculptures of masks and shells, underline the ornamentation concern of the Enlightenment century. Today, although the practical information on its visit or current use is limited, its central location makes it a major witness to the Bordeaux heritage of the eighteenth century.
