Belfry: registration by order of 29 October 1926
Origin and history
The belfry of Rosières-aux-Salines is an emblematic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in Meurthe-et-Moselle (Great East region). Listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 29 October 1926, it illustrates the civil architectural heritage of Lorraine. Its location at 8 Rue Colonel Thiebaut is estimated with an accuracy deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), although the sources do not detail its constructive history or transformations.
The belfries, symbols of communal freedoms in the Middle Ages, were often used to speed up daily life (hours of work, alerts) and to assert the autonomy of cities against lords. In Rosières-aux-Salines, as in other Lorraine villages, this type of structure reflected the social organization around artisanal or commercial activities, although the local archives do not specify its exact use. Today owned by the commune, its protected status underlines its heritage importance, without the available sources mentioning specific public openings or contemporary uses.
