Origin and history
The funeral monument of Aristide and Marie Bergès, located in the cemetery of Terre-Cabade in Toulouse, dates from the 1st quarter of the 20th century. It was erected in concession No.972 of 1908, in section 5, division 23. This monument, inscribed as a Historic Monument by order of September 17, 2019, is fully protected, as indicated in the plans annexed to the decree. Its precise location is Avenue du Cimetière, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximate address at 80 Avenue de la Colonne.
The cemetery of Terre-Cabade, where this monument is located, is an emblematic place of Toulouse, reflecting the social and cultural history of the city. At that time, funeral monuments were often designed to honour local personalities or influential families, as evidenced by the specific protection accorded to the Berges. The Occitanie region, especially Toulouse, was marked by an industrial and cultural dynamic, where cemeteries also served as places of collective memory.
The inscription of the monument in 2019 underscores its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its link to local history. The property of the monument is shared between the commune of Toulouse and private owners, which is common for perpetual concessions in French cemeteries. Available data from Monumentum and the Merimée archives confirm its protected heritage status, although its exact location remains subject to poor accuracy (note 5/10).
