Castle of Arvigna

    09100 Arvigna

Origin and history

Arvigna Castle is a building located in the municipality of the same name, in the Occitan region. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its construction period or detailed history. This monument therefore remains partially mysterious for local historians.

In the general context of medieval and modern Occitania, castles often played a central role in the social and economic organization of the territories. They served as seigneurial residences, defence sites or administrative centres. In Arvigna, as in many rural communes, life was rhythmic in agriculture, livestock farming and artisanal activities, while monuments such as this castle could symbolize local power or serve as a geographical landmark for the surrounding populations.
