Origin and history

Cusey Castle, located in the commune of the same name in Haute-Marne (Great East region), is a monument dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The current remains, protected entirely by a decree of 25 June 1970, illustrate an architecture combining medieval and Renaissance influences. This site, classified as Historic Monument, offers an overview of the evolution of the defensive and residential buildings of this pivotal period.

At the time of its construction, between the 15th and 16th centuries, the Champagne-Ardenne region (now part of the Great East) was marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The castles, often centres of local power, played a key role in the social and economic organization of the territories. They served as both seigneurial residences, places of protection for the surrounding populations, and symbols of prestige for their owners.

Cusey Castle fits in this context, although the specific details of its history and its occupants remain partially documented in available sources.
