Origin and history

The Château de Grosville, located in the commune of Rivière (Pas-de-Calais), is an iconic 18th-century building. Ranked a Historic Monument, it is distinguished by its facades, roofs, as well as those of its commons, including a dovecote. These elements, as well as the entrance gate, were inscribed by ministerial decree on 25 April 1975, highlighting their heritage value.

The monument is located at 24 Rue de Grosville, in the Pas-de-Calais department, in the Hauts-de-France region. Although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée database) mention its protected status and precise address, little detailed information is provided on its specific history, successive owners or original use. The accuracy of its geographical location is assessed as satisfactory, according to the criteria of the Merimée base.

At the time of its construction in the 18th century, the castles of this region often served as residences for the aristocracy or the local bourgeoisie, reflecting the economic and social power of their owners. They were also centres of agricultural management, integrating dependencies such as commons or dovecotes, symbols of prestige. Grosville Castle is in this context, although its exact role in the River community is not explicitly documented in available sources.
