Origin and history
The church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Vierge of Dun-le-Palestel, built in the 13th century, was an emblematic religious building of the region. Originally dowry vaulted, it lost most of its original architectural elements, with the exception of a double arch and the western main gate. The changes of the 19th century altered its trimmings, partially erasing its medieval character.
Demolished in 1909, only its facade was preserved and reintegrated into the buildings of the current old municipal hospice. Among the intact remains are the exterior trimming of the facade and the gate, classified as Historic Monument by decree of 22 June 1911. These elements are evidence of its heritage importance, despite the transformations that have taken place over the centuries.
The church's current approximate location is associated with the address of Dun-le-Palestel (Creuse, New Aquitaine). The portal, the only protected element, illustrates 13th century religious art in Limousin. The property belongs to the municipality, but its access and current use (visit, rental) are not specified in the available sources.
