Facade on street and corresponding roof (Case E 31): inscription by decree of 6 February 1964
Origin and history
The house located at 22 Rue du Gouët in Saint-Brieuc is a 17th century building, typical of Breton civil architecture of that time. Its street façade, protected by a decree of 6 February 1964, has a first floor in wooden strips with ground posts and posts, as well as crows supporting the roof. The windows have been redesigned, but the original structure retains the characteristic details of local craftsmanship.
The ground floor, probably used for commercial purposes originally, was replaced by a garage door, reflecting the modern adaptations of the building. Despite these changes, the house remains a testament to the 17th century Breton domestic architecture, with a five-poster light and decorative wooden elements. Its location in the city centre of Saint-Brieuc, in the Côtes-d.
Classified as a Historical Monument, this house illustrates the evolution of civil constructions in Brittany, where wood played a central role in vernacular architecture. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), and its official address, confirmed by the Merimée base, is 22 rue du Gouët. Protected elements include the street façade and the corresponding roof, highlighting the heritage importance of these parts of the building.
