Heritage classified
The entire oppidum, comprising its remains and in particular its two lines of monumental fortifications which are its ramparts (Box B 590 to 593, 595 to 598, 742, 743): inscription by order of 27 May 2013
Origin and history
It is distinguished by its two lines of fortifications built at the end of the Gaulish era. These ramparts, in excellent condition, define a space structured in two distinct areas, one of which was dedicated to horse grazing. The northern wall, particularly well preserved, completely closes the site, illustrating the ingenuity of Gallic defence techniques.
The site is part of a preserved natural environment, consisting of wood, hedges, meadows and agricultural plots. Archaeological remains, protected since 2013, reveal a complex spatial organization, combining defensive functions and pastoral activities. L-oppidum, a mixed property (municipal and private), offers a rare testimony of the Gaulish occupation in the Hauts-de-France.
The listing of Historic Monuments in 2013 covers the whole of the oppidum, including its ramparts and their surroundings (cadastral parks B 590 to 598, 742, 743). Although the location is approximate (estimated at 6/10), the site remains an emblematic example of regional protohistoric heritage, combining architectural heritage and rural landscape.
