Origin and history
Bon Repos Castle is a former strong house built around 1470 by Guillaume Armuet, at the beginning of the Renaissance. Located in Jarrie, Isère, it combines a rectangular house flanked by four turrets and a 15th century Gothic chapel. Its older vestiges date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The estate, owned by the Armuet family, then moved to the Auberjon de Murinais (1673-1811), then to the Costa de Beauregard before undergoing several changes of owners in the 19th century.
In 1917, the collapse of its roof accelerated its degradation. Acquired by the municipality of Jarrie in 1976, it is restored thanks to an association created in 1978. Ranked a historic monument in 1986, it now hosts visitors and shows. In 2018, the Heritage Lotto finances the restoration of its roof and windows. The site is also recognized as a "LPO refuge" for bird protection.
Architecturally, the castle is distinguished by its Renaissance home and Gothic castral chapel. The vestiges of its medieval enclosure, prior to the 15th century, bear witness to its evolution throughout the centuries. Partly open to the public, it illustrates local history and contemporary commitment to preserving heritage.
Since 1976, the Château de Bon Repos has been managed by an association dedicated to its development. Its monthly opening and cultural activities make it a living place, while preserving its historical character. The recent restoration, supported by national funds, has secured its future.
